Some Like it Hot (1959)

Well, nobody’s perfect!

Presentation:

If you aren’t convinced of Marilyn Monroe, this film will show you why. One of her most well known films despite playing a more supporting role, she completely steals the show with her charismatic allure. This isn’t exactly the right way to put it, Monroe is irresistibly distracting and it’s hard to stop ogling her shapely curves throughout the entire film. She’s basically falling out of her clothes with exposed cleavage and see-through garments. No wonder U.S. presidents succumbed to her seduction. This is primarily a light hearted buddy comedy at the end of the day. It’s a laugh at times but all too silly for me. The cross dressing antics are fun for maybe the first 20 minutes, but nearly the entire film remains this way. That being said, the lines are iconic and for 1959 it’s surprisingly a ton of fun.

Conclusion:

What’s even funnier is this film was banned at the time because cross-dressing was considered too extreme for the time. Bear in mind this is 1959 and a film surrounding the prohibition movement. There are many scenes to love from this film and I’ll probably love them more once I’ve had my coffee. This is basically the equivalent of slop in the 1950s, but the good kind. Some like it hot and Monroe is smoking hot, but I prefer my films with a bit more spice.
