Presentation:
There are few actors you can revolve an entire film around. Some that come to mind are Will Smith, Denzel Washington, Tom Cruise, Sylvester Stallone, how about Kristen Stewart? This is the only reason anyone should care about this film because the story, though experimental, is still flat. Stewart’s performance is also flat per usual so you’re getting old ham on stale bread. But maybe some people like that. It’s a pseudo art house thriller with poor executional skills, or maybe you can interpret it as trying something different. In any case, if you don’t love Stewart to death, you won’t like this film.
Conclusion:
I suppose there’s some consistency asking a notorious monotone actor to star in a tonally flat story. She doesn’t really have enough star power, but does sustain the brooding concept of grief. A modern mood piece that more than likely will leave you asking, what did I just watch? There’s a very niche audience and to be frank I might find myself enamored at times with Stewart’s coldness, but most people should finish feeling deflated.
