V/H/S (2012)
Analog horror for those that love ghost stories.
Presentation:
This is a unique style of movie experience gaining a cult following for its episodic yet thematically consistent found footage horrors. The film was made by compiling a collection of distinct horror shorts, which are all from different directors leading to each short having a unique take and direction. However they all share some supernatural or twisted malice in them. Itโs hard to say which V/H/S film is the best as some stories will undoubtedly be more memorable than others. but this one started it all. Watching when I was younger, I thought this was genuinely real, thatโs how well the found footage was executed. For more experienced adults, this might be a bit silly resembling a snuff film, but for those that like seeing wild stuff, this should be a lot of fun.
Conclusion:
There is a particular audience this film is marketed toward. Not everyone will appreciate it, but for those that do, you may get addicted to this style of content and watch all the other sequels, which is the same fascination discovered in early 2000s viral web shorts like Ebaumlsworld that you would share and terrify all your friends. If you are familiar with The Mandela Catalogue or analog horror on YouTube, this should satisfy that horror itch. Or maybe those that just like those cheesy ghost stories by the fire.
