Alone (2020)
Giving depressed people something worth fighting for.
Presentation:
This modern indie film is quite straight in its presentation. No fancy bells or whistles, just standard lighting, camera movement and clean images. Itโs a pretty enthralling thriller despite being so close to horror tropes. A killer in the woods seems like a film bound for disastrous cliches, but itโs not. There are certain sneaking scenes that should leave you on the edge of your seat and a very relatable female lead that male audiences should also emphasize with. Sheโs simply so ordinary that anyone can fit in her shoes. The villain is also pretty disturbing because of the non-exaggerated presentation that makes for believable realism. It really feels like this could happen to you.
Conclusion:
A thriller more than a horror, this is one you probably missed or never even heard about. But itโs actually quite a special film that caters to a specific group of people. For those that have overcome or are dealing with depression, this film might wake the shit out of your hopeless slump. But it does this in a cathartic and triumphant way that makes you realize that thereโs always something worth fighting for. If you like the ideology of the Saw films, youโll find this one right up your alley except you have a more serious champion. Oddly inspiring in ways you wouldnโt expect.
